GitSponsors White Paper
Provide a way for all open source contributors to receive ongoing sponsorship.
Introduction
In today’s world, individuals with an open-source spirit and a willingness to contribute are always in the minority. These creators make significant contributions to society through open-source projects and deserve proper support and rewards. However, for various reasons, many open-source projects fail to receive adequate backing and, in some cases, are forced to shut down or turn closed-source due to a lack of funding.
We are committed to changing this situation by providing support and encouragement to open-source creators. If you are a passionate open-source enthusiast, we invite you to join us, receive funding, and work together to advance the open-source movement.
Features
Valuable
No matter where you are in the world, as long as you contribute valuable open-source projects, we will reward you with valuable tokens.Evaluable
We evaluate and score open-source projects based on their contributions. The higher the score, the greater the airdrop rewards.Sustainable
As long as your open-source project continues to contribute to society, you will receive daily rewards without interruption.
How to Participate
Simply add a line of Badge code to the README
file of your open-source project, and you’ll start earning sponsorship rewards.
What is a Badge?
A Badge is essentially an image that we can control to display dynamic content and links. This feature can attract sponsors for advertising placements, and the ad revenue will benefit all participating open-source creators.
Check out examples of Badges with different sizes.
How Badges Work
Advertising
Badges can serve as an advertising medium, attracting sponsors to place ads.Analytics
By tracking the display and click metrics of Badges, we can evaluate their advertising value.
Will the Badge Affect My Project?
The Badge will not affect your open-source project in any way. It functions just like any other type of Badge. If you’re already using other Badges, they will behave exactly the same.
What if I Have Multiple Open-Source Projects?
Each open-source project can independently receive rewards, so you can earn multiple airdrops simultaneously. Your open-source contributions will bring you even greater benefits.
How to Update Information Immediately?
We regularly update project information. If you’ve made changes (e.g., updated your wallet address) and want them to take effect immediately, simply go through the Claim process again. This will not affect your next airdrop.
Airdrop Rewards
We issue cryptocurrency GITS
as sponsorship rewards.
About GITS
- Blockchain Network: Polygon
- Contract address:
0xdE8bA524490cCBB12f3aE84d573fbCe3810ABcc4
- Total Supply: 10 billion tokens
- Usage: 100% allocated for airdrops and liquidity pool maintenance.
- Halving Mechanism: Airdrop amounts are halved each time the remaining token supply is reduced by half.
Reward Distribution Rules
After participating, you’ll earn daily GITS
rewards based on your project’s contribution. To minimize blockchain transaction fees, rewards are transferred to your wallet every 30 days in a single batch, with transaction fees covered by us.
Why Use Cryptocurrency?
Global Payments
Traditional payment methods are complex and often restrictive. Open-source sponsorships should not be limited by borders. With cryptocurrency, payments can be made using just a wallet address.Value Stability
Our Badges generate advertising value. 80% of the ad revenue is injected into the liquidity pool and burned to stabilize the token price. The remaining 20% covers project maintenance costs.
How to Withdraw?
Airdrop rewards accumulate in our internal system. They will be transferred on-chain when the following conditions are met:
- Rewards have been accumulating for at least 30 days.
- The value of rewards exceeds $1 USD (calculated based on the current
GITS
price).
You can exchange GITS
for stablecoin USDT on the decentralized exchange uniswap
, or keep the tokens and wait for appreciation before selling them.
Airdrop Amount Calculation
Daily Airdrop Total = Number of Participating Open-Source Projects × 5
For example, if 10,000 open-source projects are participating, 50,000 GITS
tokens will be airdropped daily and distributed among these projects based on their contribution.
Contribution Evaluation
We evaluate the contribution of open-source projects based on the following criteria:
Open-Source Contributions
- Metrics like Stars, Forks, and Watchers are used to assess the value of the project.
Advertising Value
- The Badge’s position in the README file (higher positions are rated higher).
- The Badge’s display and click counts (higher numbers result in higher ratings).
- The Badge’s image size (larger Badges are more noticeable).
We will gradually introduce additional metrics to improve evaluation accuracy.
Airdrop Allocation Rules
Airdrops are distributed based on the combined score of open-source contributions and advertising value. Projects with higher rankings receive larger shares of the airdrop.
